January 25, 2024: I start my trip north from my Dad’s house and capture my cruise with video footage off the command bridge.
Here’s a look off the port side of my Command Bridge as I cruised from just north of Fort Pierce to just north of Vero Beach where I dropped anchor for the night. Not much narration, but I did label the places I went past with ICW MMs and show maps for my route. There’s music, too.
A little backstory here. I had just finished up a 10-day stay at my Dad’s house in Fort Pierce, FL. He lived in one of those communities with canals that makes it possible for each home to have a dock and a boat lift in the back yard. I was starting my return trip northbound to finish my Great Loop cruise after a side trip from the Annapolis area down to Key West. It was January and the conditions were pretty good for cruising. I was ahead of the Great Loop pack — a place I like to be — heading north a bit early so I could do a side trip up the St. Johns River. My destination for the day wasn’t far: an anchorage off the ICW just north of Vero Beach. At the end of this video you’ll see me drop anchor near a little, uninhabited island with the perfect sandbar strip to give my dogs a chance to run and do their business on shore.
And a reminder: if you want to know what it’s actually like to cruise the Great Loop, check out my YouTube channel. Yes, there’s some other videos there from my life, but there’s a ton of Great Loop videos there now with lots more to come this winter.
