Yes, my laptop is still dead so I cannot produce the kind of detailed, day by day blog posts that I’ve been producing since the start of this trip. I do, however, still have my mobile devices, including my phone and my tablet. I thought I would try to create a few short posts as we travel to make up for the missing posts, especially since I may not remember so many details when I finally have time to sit down and write about those days.
That said, I thought I would share a few thoughts about our overnight stay at Erie, PA.
We stayed at the Wolverine Marina and it was nice enough. They put us in a slip with water and power that was easy walking distance to the restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities. It was quite close to numerous restaurants and a handful of tourist points of interest. So it was easy to go for a long walk or a short walk, although the temperature and humidity made it very uncomfortable for me.
The only drawback to the location was that it was not near any kind of grocery shopping. At this point, we’re getting a little low on fresh milk, which I use for my coffee every morning, and I just hope that our next stop has a place where I can buy some milk to replace what’s going bad in the fridge.
I think that if I do come back with my own boat, possibly in about two years, I’ll stay across the bay at the State Park Marina. It’s much more laid-back and apparently has many biking and hiking trails on both sides of the peninsula. I’m not that interested in cities unless there’s something interesting to offer and would rather have a quiet evening in a natural setting than be among a lot of boats near a busy road.
Do you think having a bike on the boat would be helpful for getting about once on dry land?
Yes. I would not do this trip in my own boat without a bicycle.
